Georgia Advisory Council for the Trust for Public Land
Saving land for people. Jackie has been interested in the environment ever since her father dragged her to field trips with students from his environmental studies class. Her first green memory is picking up a toilet seat off the highway on the second earth day clean up.
Jackie became involved in Genesis, a shelter and counseling organization serving the needs of homeless newborns and their families, shortly after her second child’s birth. While she was Treasurer, the organization raised over $5 million for a new facility. As a fellow board member always reminded her – “we have to raise the money – nothing worse than a homeless homeless shelter.”
A2A4A - The Arthritis Foundation
Jackie and her sister Kathy formed a team, America to Athens for Arthritis, in 2007 to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation. Kathy, who has Rheumatoid Arthritis, completed the Athens, Greece Marathon with the team of five last fall. The A2A4A team raised over $40,000. A2A4A has changed its name to America to Anywhere for Arthritis and is planning on walking the 2008 Dublin, Ireland marathon this October, and raise $60,000 for the Arthritis Foundation.
Atlanta Botanical Gardens
Jackie and her husband Jimmy chaired the 2007 Garden of Eden Ball benefiting the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. The ball was in honor of Jimmy’s grandfather, Philip Alston, junior, who helped found the garden.
