The People's Government, the People's Work

On January 20, Donald Trump took the oath of office and became the 45th president of the United States. Trump's speech was 1,435 words long. It included the word "I" only three times. "The oath of office I take today is an oath of allegiance to all Americans," said Trump. Later he noted, "I will fight for you with every breath in my body -- and I will never, ever let you down." Whenever he used the word "I," he used it in reference to his service to our country.

This week, President-elect Donald J. Trump will be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States. His election is the 58th election of a United States president since we declared our freedom from Great Britain. While there is much media attention regarding those who are protesting, a bit of history might provide a different perspective.

Words have power; they create images and possibilities, and provide a window into the future of what could be. The best leaders use positive words to communicate a potential future. They inspire action, progress and positive results. For words to matter, they must be upheld by a solid foundation. They cannot be all fluff and flutter.

The Year to Get Stuff Done

This same theme seems to be present in President-elect Donald Trump's approach as well. Enough of words -- let's accomplish something!

With an incoming Republican administration, a Senate now split 52 Republicans, 48 Democrats; and a House split 241 Republicans, 194 Democrats; the onus is on the Republicans to Get Stuff Done.

Happy Almost New Year

Christmas is a special time in our family. Our daughter Maggie loves decorating the tree, and her brother Robert is now tall enough to decorate the top third -- that she and I cannot reach.

The Christmas celebrations in my husband's family are legendary and fun. They remind me of how blessed I am to be part of a large, loving, generous family. The family party, Christmas Eve at Nanny's and Christmas Day at his Aunt Gayle and Jimmy's as well as Christmas day dinner is at our home with my fairy godmother and her family, are the highlights of the season.
